Now I understand why!

So I went to the doctor about2 months ago, felt horrible, not like a cold or the flu but I couldn't function. I felt blah, blaher than I had in forever. I felt like the world on my shoulders and that I always had a dark cloud above me. I always laughed when I heard people say that because I thought it was a figure of speech but I now have passed through it my self. I had a physical done and lots of blood work. My results came back that to sum it all up...I have PCOS. Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. The more I looked into it the more I understood who I am and how I am. It is amazing at how much better I feel now compared to then. Mostly I feel better because I had low vitamin D, weird huh, yes that did it. Mine was scoring at 18 and I needed to be within 30-90 I think, the doctor said she likes to see people fall around 70. I read up on being vitamin D deficient and it definently fit my symptoms.  Along with that, I have a hormone imbalance. It really shocked me to find out how related hormones are to ones weight. I had no idea. So I kept reading. One of the PCOS symptoms is the inability to lose weight. After reading it made sense to me, the only time I lost weight was when I was on the Atkins diet, I have been trying to figure out what type of foods I should eat to lose weight, I didn't want to be on the Atkins again BUT I just read in an article that those with PCOS should "Limit your total carbohydrate intake to absolutely no more than 150 g a day. Many women with PCOS find that they need to limit carbohydrates to as little as 20 g a day to achieve the results that they want. Make sure that the carbohydrates you eat are from low glycaemic index foods." Hey, those who have been on the Atkin diet probably can see the similarities. So guess what, I guess the atkins is the only way to lose weight. I think I would have to limit my intake to 20 g a day anyway. That was and has been the only time I have seen results in my weightloss.

  2. Hey, I just posted on my blog about my low Vit D! The doc says it probably runs in the family. Might get a good idea for the rest of the fam to get it checked out. Good luck on Atkins. I have been doing about 150 g carbs/day and 100 g protein/day. Everyone is so different!
